The CopernicusLAC project aims to implement a Data Centre in Panama, the CopernicusLAC Panama Data Centre, which will provide the necessary infrastructure for the deployment of Earth Observation services and products in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). In this framework the European Space Agency leads the implementation of the hub through three pillars: processing infrastructure in Panama for use by LAC (Copernicus Panama Centre), EO services based on Copernicus data (open and free), and stakeholder engagement, training, and knowledge transfer. The delivery of the EO Services Development component has been contracted to a consortium, led by Indra with CIMA Foundation, LIST, Geoapp, University of Thessaloniki, Terradue, Wasdi, Athena Global, and ALSO Space.

Within this framework, the CopernicusLAC EO-Services Development project is developing twelve Earth Observation applications oriented to manage and reduce risks of hydrometeorological and geological disasters, and mapping economic assets exposed to catastrophes. See www.copernicuslac-panama.eu.

EO services are implemented using free and open satellite data from the Copernicus programme, with transferable methodologies (ensuring reusability and adaptability), through a co-design and ownership of the services by local users in the region. After a phase of development, early application of these EO services will showcase their functionalities in specific regions indicated by the users over Latin America and the Caribbean. After a validation of EO products made by designated users, the services will be then transferred to the Copernicus LAC Panama Data Centre and therefore integrated in the CopernicusLAC Platform .

The CopernicusLAC Platform is developed by Terradue. Terradue's mission is to innovate services in Earth Science, tailored for data-intensive applications. We team-up with business partners and customers to remove barriers in automatic usage of Cloud data storage, integration of data analysis algorithms and access to massive computing power.
